Passionate About Purple

Earlier this year, the host of HGTV’s Color Splash and the original Design Star, David Bromstad predicted the hottest interior decorating trends of 2012 on  Being an artist, color expert and design guru, Bromstad definitely is ahead of the game as I’ve seen his predictions of bold graphics to hot hues already gracing the slick pages of design magazines.

First trend prediction – Bold graphic wallpaper!  My first reaction was “Say it isn’t so.” If you’ve ever tried to remove out dated wallpaper, you’ll agree with my sentiment. Then I read further where David recommends decorative stencils to achieve the same look, but can be painted over easily.  Okay, I feel better now.

More trend predictions included bringing in various natural home décors, such as wood, seashells and natural grasses. Also outdoor living is gaining popularity with people spending more time in outdoor spaces, therefore decorating those living spaces has become another craze.  Then don’t forget to add lighting and mis-matched furniture and you’ve turned your house into eclectic chic.

And the final prediction by the design guru – Purple! Although Tangerine Tango was named the 2012 color of the year by global color authority Pantone, which we already knew
orange is in, people are passionate about purple as well. “Shades of purple have been trending for several years, and this year is no exception. From shades of gray-purple to lavender to vibrant and bright, purples are resonating with people’s psyches because they’re flirty and sassy,” says Bromstad.

My favorite purple bedroom display (shown above) includes the Manor Hill Daniela Bed in a Bag set. Add some stenciled art on the wall above the headboard and a natural plant in the corner of the room and we have an exact epitome of what David Bromstad predicted.

Who wants to update their bedroom now?!
