Behind The Scenes With Tommy Hilfiger

While I am currently in New York City for Fashion Week getting a sneak peek on the upcoming trends for Spring 2013 from our top designers, I thought I would give you a “behind the scenes” glimpse at one of my absolute favorite designers of all time - Tommy Hilfiger!

Thomas Jacob Hilfiger was born March 24, 1951 in Elmira, New York to a jeweler-father and nurse-mother and is one of nine children. Hilfiger went on to father five children of his own from two different wives. Hilfiger began in retail when he was only eighteen years old customizing and reselling jeans and bell-bottomed pants for a local Elmira store. He eventually opened his own store called “The People’s Place” and after several ups and downs in the industry, he eventually founded the Tommy Hilfiger Corporation in 1984 and then sold it for $1.6 billion in 2006. Hilfiger introduced his first signature apparel collection in 1985 with an emphasis on button-down shirts and chino pants.  Tommy Hilfiger is now considered one of the world’s leading premium lifestyle brands offers consumers a plethora of high quality, beautifully designed products including clothing for men, women and children, plus accessories, fragrances and home furnishings.

The American flag is usually the inspiration of all Tommy Hilfiger designs, as you can also see in their logo.  This New York Fashion Week show is no different as Tommy Hilfiger chose the “American Voyage” as their theme to unveil their sporty Spring/Summer 2013 collection. Red, white and blue stripes have so far dominated the upcoming Tommy Hilfiger apparel line. Source:
