Lately there seems to be a trend on TV and at the movies. Have you noticed it too? I have seen a lot of Princess shows popping up. I do not mean the cute and playful Disney Princess kind. All of those old popular fairy tales are getting a modern day makeover. And they sure have gotten a lot darker!
Julia Roberts played a really evil witch in “Mirror Mirror.” And I cannot wait for this summer’s “Snow White and the Huntsman.” Have you seen the movie trailer yet? It looks so good! The movie stars Kristen Stewart (I loved her in “Twilight”) as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the wicked witch. She’s just gorgeous isn’t she? Oh, and Chris Hemsworth who plays Thor is in this as a hunky woodsman. It certainly looks a lot more suspenseful than any Princess movie I have ever seen!
But what I am really enjoying now is ABC’s new show “Once Upon a Time.” The premise is just so clever and totally fun. All of your favorite fairy tales were banished to our world. They all live in a town called Storybrooke, and they do not have any of their memories. Well no one does except for the wicked queen who banished them all there in the first place.
The Evil Queen also just happens to be the Mayor of Storybrooke. She has almost the entire town wrapped around her fingers. Look how frightening she looks back in the Fairy Tale realm! I wonder if her real-world version’s bathroom has a shower curtain like this Steve Madden Juliet Shower Curtain. Black and white with a touch of femininity thanks to a pink stripe. She may be evil but she definitely has good fashion sense.
Each week you learn a new take on a familiar character and see how every fairy tale seems to somehow be connected. There is Snow White, Prince Charming, Red Riding Hood, Rumpelstiltskin (he is so evil!), Jiminy Cricket and even Sleeping Beauty. I just feel so bad for poor Snow, though. You will have to catch up on the show to understand the pain she is going through right now. I cannot wait to see what happens on the season finale May 13!
Take a look at Prince Charming kissing the sleeping Snow White. Their romance is one of the main themes of the show. And the costumes are just incredible. That lush red and velvet jacket on the prince just bursts with color. It reminds me of this Manor Hill Daniela bedding set we offer. I wonder if Snow and Charming will live happily ever after and finally get to settle in for a good night’s sleep in a comfy bed like this! I sure hope so!
If you haven’t watched “Once Upon a Time” yet you really should. You will never look at fairy tales the same way again.
Have a great week!
